True Beauty...is far from perfect......and when it comes to art, I'm a social realist.
I use my life long experiences to design freely without any esoteric jargon of my contemporaries. If it really matters, I have a Bachelors of Art in of all things Painting and Photography. Which is probably 180 degrees from the craft of making jewelry. But, studying under the guise of those creative languages, enable the language art to evol into what is currently available in the store. My work is nothing more than little emblems of the free spirit which exists in all of us.
I try my best to make the art pure, instead of perfect. I feel it's a good reflection of the nature of the creative process which emanates throughout everyone. The materials I use and the end results, make it jewelry by default. I have a meditative process in making and assembling each piece. When I create, I picture an individual, a warm feeling, a sense...etc ... to capture that essence of love that is in everyone. My work is an open dedication to the person wearing it, and all their ups and down that will happen while they try to be themselves. Its an open dedication from what I know of my experiences, to theirs.
The work is made with the same methodology of a person studying yoga. My discipline while working is to be in a meditative state, and to create from the stream of consciousness. This method is very therapeutic for myself. I have a few partially disabling maladies due to a back injury a few years ago. I always joke about learning to walk again, every day I wake. Creating jewelry is one of the few joys that gets me up and going. It distracts me from my daily pains.
Each piece, is made in a succession of moments. The only thing that is ever measured, is probably chain lengths. Everything else, is approximate.....that is, it's created without any constrains. The lack of formalities, allow the works to evolve and appear on their own. All the hard work has been done already. The metal came from an exploding star eons ago, the gemstones formed over a few thousand years. I work quickly by just guiding these materials and letting everything fall into place. This method, I would hazard to guess is more pure than pure.
